Urban Deer
As I drove towards Mt. Tolmie to photograph the sun setting over Victoria, I spotted a herd of deer frolicking in a field near the university. Two does and about 4 or 5 fawns hopping around. It was too much.
I snuck around them for a while quietly shooting. The does kept their eye on me and every once in a while a fawn would sprint towards me… a little worrisome.
Initially I was unhappy with the architecture in some of my shots, but as I go through them now- those ended up being my favourites. The buildings put their habitat into perspective and this shot ended up being so sweet.

On sunday, Kavna the beluga passed away in the Vancouver Aquarium at the age of 46. Kavna inspired Raffi’s “Baby Beluga”, a song that I suspect sparked my lifelong love for whales as a child. I met Kavna in Vancouver exactly one year ago. Goodbye beautiful creature.

An Afternoon at Abkhazi
I spent a recent afternoon at the lovely, peaceful Abkhazi garden in Victoria, BC. I’m really excited to be working on a few video projects with the Land Conservancy of BC- it’s inspiring and encourages me to spend more time shooting and editing video.
I tried to incorporate all aspects of the garden in this video- the flowers, ducks, turtles, landscapes, humans, insects, silence…
Molly and Murray, resident ducks, enjoy the garden with their young ones.
“The Abkhazi Garden is an exquisite heritage home and garden located in Victoria, British Columbia…Prince and Princess Abkhazi began creating their garden in 1946.”
The Abkhazis worked together on their creation for over 40 years, referring to it as “their child”. After their deaths the Garden changed hands, and in February 2000, The Land Conservancy purchased the property to save it from becoming a townhouse development.”

Bighorn Sheep
I almost missed these guys while driving along the terrifying highway through Golden, BC. Try stopping on the side of a narrow highway, at the top of a mile-high dropoff, while transport trucks speed by. Anything for a photo.
They looked a bit disheveled but they were simply losing their winter fur.

Cedar (my roommate David’s family dog) and I had a photoshoot in the park the other day. She’s a natural for the camera.

Upon stopping at the side of the road outside of Calgary, I noticed small creatures darting by my feet, squeaking and poking their heads out of the ground.
Masses of ground squirrels! (Also known as gophers.)
I can’t be sure if they are Richardson’s or Columbian ground squirrels, as geographic ranges overlap.
