An Afternoon at Abkhazi

I spent a recent afternoon at the lovely, peaceful Abkhazi garden in Victoria, BC. I’m really excited to be working on a few video projects with the Land Conservancy of BC- it’s inspiring and encourages me to spend more time shooting and editing video.

I tried to incorporate all aspects of the garden in this video- the flowers, ducks, turtles, landscapes, humans, insects, silence…

Molly and Murray, resident ducks, enjoy the garden with their young ones.

“The Abkhazi Garden is an exquisite heritage home and garden located in Victoria, British Columbia…Prince and Princess Abkhazi began creating their garden in 1946.”

The Abkhazis worked together on their creation for over 40 years, referring to it as “their child”. After their deaths the Garden changed hands, and in February 2000, The Land Conservancy purchased the property to save it from becoming a townhouse development.”

Shot and edited by Cassie O’Neil (antlerlash.com) for The Land Conservancy of BC

Updates: I am in my second week at Strathcona Park Lodge and Outdoor Education Centre and I’m having a great time. Every morning I wake up to the mountains, I laugh a lot, and I feel healthier than ever. It’s wonderful being around people who are enthusiastic about the environment and life in general. Wildlife and nature filmmaking looks promising this summer- on my first day, I watched deer graze up close. The deck is occupied by many hummingbirds and hilarious Steller’s Jays. I look forward to a great summer!

Our commercial has been entered into the “See What Could Be” contest for Acuvue contact lenses.

See our entry here.

It’s a bit abstract for the contest but still- fingers crossed!

The spot was shot on 16mm. It premiered at TIFF Bell Lightbox this past week.

Enjoy!
